Yoga Class Club: January 2025
Hey Everybody,
Welcome to January in our Yoga Class Club – and Happy New Year! 🎉
A new year often brings fresh energy and motivation to our yoga practice (whoo hoo!), and I hope this month’s selection of classes will offer you inspiration and support as we step into 2025 together. Whether you’re looking for grounding, energizing, or relaxing practices, our January Yoga Class Club has something for everyone.
As always, we have a well-rounded selection this month including gentle, active, and strong classes, two 10-minute warm-up flows, and a specialty class – this month, we have a focus on the yoga inversion headstand! (And don’t worry – you do not need to practice full headstand at all. But working toward this inversion can be a great and empowering exploration!)
A few other reminders about our Yoga Class Club:
–Please feel free to branch out from this class “club” and take any other classes from the greater library that you like (of course!). But just know that this January selection represents what I see as a balanced overall month-long practice.
–Also feel free to substitute any other class from the library (or from any other yoga teacher if you also take classes elsewhere, for that matter!) for one of the ones I’ve included in this club if I happen to choose a class this month that isn’t a good fit for your body or your practice. If you’re using the Accountability Checklist (scroll down to find it), you can jot down your substitutions there. :)
Enjoy this month’s Yoga Class Club selection, and I’ll “see” you on the mat!
–Jenni
P.S. Remember that I’m always here in our community forum if you have any comments, questions, or feedback about the “Club”!
Warm-Up Flows: 10-minute yoga/movement snacks
–Take each class 1x/week this month
-
Touching in on the Shoulders & Core
This quick flow checks off many movement boxes for us! We target both our anterior and posterior core, plus our anterior and posterior shoulders – and all within the context of a whole body flow. A perfect jolt of energy for any time during your day!
-
Say Hello to Your Hips!
I love this linked-together flow – we practice it one time through one side, and then we move to the second side. All throughout, we target our hips from a variety of directions. And of course pigeon pose makes an appearance – in the form of pigeon chair sit backs!
Gentle yoga practices – when you want to move, but without a lot of effort
–Take each class once this month (and more if you need it)
-
Keep It Low Mellow Flow 5 (27 min)
This is such a fun practice in all of its mellowness! We start with a dynamic sphinx pose and then move into the coolest dead bug variation ever. (You’ll see!) Then a very unique transition up into a seated hip opener, followed by a great low lunge-y sequence. I hope you enjoy this sequence as much as I do!
-
Your Pelvis is Awesome (23 min)
This unique practice starts with a focused, isolated pelvic movement exploration. Then we shift into a flow consisting of larger, more integrated movements in which we apply what we cultivated in our opening exploration! A mellow practice in which we’ll light up new connections through our core!
Active yoga practices – we flow and connect to our breath, but the challenge level is moderate
Take each class at least 2x this month
-
Move Your Spine Flow (45 min)
I designed this class as an exploration of spinal movement in multiple planes of motion and relationships to gravity. We start with a reclined sequence that includes breathwork and then we make our way into a fun, creative standing flow that provides many opportunities to move and connect to your spine!
-
Creative Kneeling-Based Flow w/ Special Guest Magnus Ringberg (43 min)
I’m more than excited to share the third class in our series from our newest special guest teacher in the library: Magnus Ringberg! 🎉🎉 I’ve been a major fan of Magnus and his yoga/movement teaching and education work for years, and he finally decided to contribute some specially-created classes for our community! This Creative Kneeling-Based Flow is his third practice for us, and I think you’ll love it!
-
Warrior 2 All the Ways (36 min)
Hip mobility work plays a starring role in this fun and dynamic class! We move our hips (and whole body) in many different ways in this practice, but our overall theme is moving into warrior 2 in a variety of ways and also focusing on component parts of warrior 2!
Strong flows (optional)– when we really want to level up the challenge!
Take each class 2x this month if your body wants a more fiery practice
-
Vigorous Vinyasa Flow 7 (42 min)
This is a unique yoga class that has a bit more structure than my typical flow classes, but it’s all for the purpose of creating true strength adaptations on our yoga mat! And there is still a definite flow element to this practice – I promise! :) I also appreciate the way the sequence is divided between the two halves of the body. You’ll see what I mean when you take the class!
-
Vigorous Vinyasa Flow 1 (51 min)
This great class kicks things up a notch (but not toooo high! ;) ). It’s a non-stop, well-rounded flow that offers us a nice level of challenge both stamina-wise and pose selection-wise. Our quads receive a little extra attention, and we also get to (optionally) visit crow pose if we feel so drawn!
Specialty class (optional)– a yoga class with an extra specific focus
Take this class 1 or more times this month if this specialty focus feels relevant for your body!
-
Taking the Fear Out of Headstand (28 min)
Even if you’re not interested in ever practicing full headstand :), I still think you’ll benefit from this practice! We work on upper body and core strength and we explore some great inversion “prep” that will support all of your inversions – not just headstand! And above all else, I find feeling our strength and letting go of fear to be such an empowering experience, and this type of yoga asana exploration is a perfect microcosm for that!
