Welcome to week 4 of our Yoga Asana Analysis course!
I hope you enjoyed the material we covered last week about warrior 2, triangle pose, side angle pose, reverse warrior, and half moon.
And in case you missed it, I shared two bonus video responses this past week! One video is a quick primer on foundational anatomical and movement terms – for anyone who would like a short intro or a review on the language of anatomy. The other video is a yoga class gift I’m sharing with you which exemplifies how I apply my biomechanical knowledge of asana to a classic yoga pose: half moon!
Now our new course material this week covers a fresh selection of yoga asanas – our main backbends in yoga! 👏
The poses we’ll look at this week are: bridge pose, wheel pose, shalabhasana (locust pose), dhanurasana (bow pose), and camel pose.
(We did cover two other backbending yoga asanas back in week 1 – cobra pose and upward facing dog – but this group that we’ll look at this week tends to be the poses that we more classically think of when we think of “backbends”. :) )
I hope you enjoy breaking down and analyzing this new collection of poses with me!
As a reminder, you’ll have this full week to:
watch the video content (below)
complete the quick quiz on these videos (below)
and share your answer to this week’s homework question in our cohort forum. (Homework Q posted below!)
Please complete these assignments by the end of the day on Sunday, March 30th.
And remember, I’ll be present in the cohort forum all week to read and review everyone’s homework submissions, and I’ll also be there to answer any and all questions that might come up for you about this week’s course material!
I hope you enjoy your content for this week, and I’ll see you in the forum!
Please post your response to this question in the “Week 4 Homework” thread in our cohort forum!
Choose one of the yoga asanas we covered this week (bridge pose, wheel pose, shalabhasana, dhanurasana, or camel pose) and share one cue for this pose that you feel is either helpful or unhelpful, and explain why.
I’d love for us to collectively share and learn from each other – whether it's effective cueing language for these poses or cues we might want to avoid.
Feel free to draw on our broader course themes of “bigger picture alignment”, “self-organization”, and “micromanaging”.
