Eccentric, Concentric, & Isometric

A Yoga Continuing Education Course

The Different Types of Muscle Contractions and How They Matter in Yoga

Why do the differences between eccentric, concentric, & isometric contractions matter in yoga?

When might we want to consciously use an eccentric contraction over a concentric one, or an isometric over an eccentric? What unique properties do they each offer the body?

This 55-minute mini-workshop takes a thorough look at the different types of muscle contractions and the role that each plays in our yoga practice. This information tends to be either not included in most yoga teacher training programs, or touched on only very superficially. In this workshop, we take the time to examine the details behind muscle contractions in an in-depth way, including considerations for how we might apply this information on the yoga mat, as well as some good old myth-busting about common misconceptions about muscle contractions.

Enjoy using these concepts to practice or teach yoga in a more intentional way!

Note the optional quiz you are welcome to take for certification that you have completed and comprehended this course.

As with all of Jenni’s workshops, this course counts for continuing education hours for Yoga Alliance-registered yoga teachers.
